This week we're profiling our newest designer, Sarika Tarsadia. A Californian and globe trotter, Sarika imbues her jewelry with edgy glamour as well as meaning: she donates a portion of sales to educating children in rural India, and has recently contributed to relief efforts in Nepal. We talked to Sarika about her love of travel, combining her passions for giving and design, and the story behind the name of her line.
I grew up in Southern California and moved to Boston for four years to attend Bentley University. My personality is a little more reserved and shy when you first meet me, but with time I tend to become more outgoing and talkative. I like to go with the flow, I love exploring new places and cultures (especially local markets), trying new restaurants, going on hikes, and hanging out with friends and family.
I have been creating and designing beaded jewelry for my family and friends since I was 5 years old. I really enjoy working with all materials from all around the world. I have always wanted to find away to combine my passion for design and desire to give back so I started Together By Gravity in hopes to inspire and empower people to give back by putting good energy into the world, one bracelet at a time.
The name Together By Gravity emerged from the meaning of my name “Sarika,” which means Star in Hindi. Together By Gravity is the method of how a star is formed—when the force of gravity pulling in on the cloud is greater than the strength of internal pressure pushing out, the cloud collapses into a star. My hope is to create pieces that bring out one's inner beauty while supporting children’s education in rural India (the shining stars).
Staying true to my California roots all my designs are inspired by my love of the ocean and earth, fusing my rooted Indian culture with a modern edge and my global adventures. Together By Gravity is truly an extension of me.
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to see my parents run a successful business and give back to causes that were near and dear to their hearts. Over the last decade, I’ve had the opportunity to go on service trips with my family. Working with these kids first hand gave me the inspiration to want to provide them with resources to escape poverty and provide a better life for themselves and their families. In addition to donating a percentage of sales, I hope to visit again and volunteer my time.
I would say my style is a mix between California cool and edgy, always paired with a Together By Gravity bracelet.
If I had to choose, it would be the 8mm Pave Diamond Onyx Bracelet. It really goes with everything. I usually wear it stacked with other bracelet or on its own. The combination of precious pave diamonds and precious stones carries positive energy, flushing out negative energy influencing both emotions and spiritual growth.
My goal with Together by Gravity is to create pieces with a deep sense of meaning and design. With that in mind, I will continue to create timeless pieces that allow each person feel special and beautiful, not just for special occasions but for everyday and the best part is that they will have the constant reminder that they are making a difference in a child’s life.
